This book examines how agricultural innovation arises in four African countries i.e., Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda through agribusiness, public policies and specific value chains for food staples, high value products and livestock. The book consists of four chapters. Chapter 1 illuminates the dynamics of innovation, including the impact of public policies and institutions on innovation and value chains, by focusing on the perceptions of agribusiness and by using the agriculture innovation system concept as an analytical framework. Chapter 2 evaluates the dynamics of innovation in the cassava, cocoa and poultry subsectors of Ghana by specifically looking at value chains and using the agricultural innovation system framework. Chapter 3 assesses Kenya's maize, tomato and dairy subsectors and value chains using an agricultural innovation system approach. Chapter 4 studies agribusiness innovation in Tanzania with a focus on the agriculture and food industry.
