Abstract

Discusses evidence for early settlement (late Palaeolithic and Mesolithic, c1100-5400 BP), the Neolithic (c5400-4000 BP), the Bronze Age (c4000-2600 BP) and the Iron Age (c2600-1500 BP). Arable agriculture may date to as early as 6000 BP and was certainly well established by 5000 BP. A number of localities are described. -K.Clayton
