Abstract

Abstract. Mobile software applications are even more focused on good user experience than traditional desktop applications. Today’s high-resolution displays of mobile devices offer increasing capabilities in user interaction experiences. Correct behavior of the emerging GUIs has become a critical success factor. However with the more advanced GUI capabilities, manual testing of the GUI has become more complex and error prone. Thus it is absolutely critical for efficient mobile application development to establish automated GUI testing. Android offers various concepts for testing mobile applications. In this paper we present two approaches for testing mobile GUI applications, the Android Instrumentation Framework and the Positron Framework. We will show the strength and weaknesses of the two approaches.
