A survey of qualitative decision theory is carried out to stimulate new work in the area and alert researchers in other areas to topics of mutual interest. First, some of the motivations for pursuing more qualitative approaches are illustrated. Following this, the nature of traditional decision theory and analysis is examined. Finally, technical issues and topics for investigation are identified.
