Characteristics of Adult Learning

Abstract

Learning is a very complex matter and the characteristics of learning change significantly through the different life ages. Adult learning is fundamentally selective, as it is not possible to learn everything and adults fundamentally try to direct their own learning. However, this selection, to a great extent, functions unconsciously by means of psychological defense and resistance. These fundamental conditions of adult learning are often not taken into account in the planning and practice of adult education programs.
