Dewey asks, is the question of education a question of the child or one of the curriculum? Dewey condemns an educational system in which the question is answered at either end, or even somewhere along such an imagined continuum. He asserts that it shouldnt be a question of continuum at all, but in which we seek to understand the reality to which each the child and the curriculum belong. It is the learners organization of experience that defines subject matter. Thus, the work of the teacher to determine the best possible environment for the child and thus by indirection to direct.
