This paper describes the design and use of a competency-based approach to teach nursing research to a group of accelerated second-degree students. Use of a competency-based approach not only recognize the student's prior educational experience, but culminates in the demonstration of competencies that show the individual's readiness for joining the nursing workforce. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd.
