Abstract

Aims. - To evaluate the incidence of the corticoid regulation in sports medicine. Topics. - Corticosteroids injections are a frequently applied therapy in sports medicine, for tendinitis, articular sprains and overuse syndromes. However, there is no updated agreement about effectiveness, and clinical guidelines are poor .Optimal timing, dosage and injection volume, remain answered. Comparison of efficacity with other treatments are not well established. At the present time, we cannot characterize the type of application (injection, pommade, iontophoresis...) in urine. Regarding anti-doping controls in France, during 2002, triamcinolone is the first corticosteroid discovered ( 81 cases), but bethametasone (26 cases) and prednisolone are also widely precribed. Perspectives. - Further researches are needed about type of prescription, effectiveness of therapy, time of elimination in reference with exercise, adverse effects. In our opinion, prescription of corticosteroids at present time cannot be widely justified. © 2004 Elsevier SAS. Tous droits réservés.
