Abstract

The title suggests the thesis of this article: Environments are a function of the people behaving in them. I first briefly review my personal saga resulting in the idea that persons cause environments to be what they are. Then I review a new conceptualization of organizational functioning based on the attraction-selection-attrition framework. Implications of this framework for various areas of study in I/O psychology and vocational behavior are then described. © 1987.
