In the midst of a biodiversity crisis of yet unknown magnitude (Pimm et al., 1995; Jenkins 2003), the community is working hard to coordinate the sharing and using of biological datasets from the diversity of natural sciences. In those efforts, geospatial data are a key component that can help us join biodiversity information with data from other sources to study where species exist and how they are responding to a changing environment.
