Abstract

The manufacture of delicate and ultra-light fabrics is not an easy process and this article outlines some of the difficulties encountered and their solution. The problems are inherent to the fabric and include difficulty in layering fabric, slipperiness that causes cutting inaccuracies and puckering when stitching. Machines built for such fabric manufacture have special facilities to cope with these problems. The Economic 17 machine from Assyst-Bullmer for instance has a driven roll with distance sensors to control the drive motor. The same company has a range of Procut machines using vacuum to hold fabric in place while cutting. FK GROUP offer the Automatic 480 that gives tension-free fabric laying. Kuris-Wastema has a spreading solution in the TexSpread Super Electronic giving a fold free, high accuracy, zero tension solution.
