Abstract

Syphilis is a fascinating disease with a varied and perplexing array of clinical manifestations. Diagnosis is based upon clinical manifestations when present, identification of the etiologic agent, and serologic testing. A few new diagnositic tests have been developed in recent years but, with the exception of the IgM tests, most have no apparent advantage over existing standard approaches. © 1994.
