Abstract

A new species of shrew, Sylvisorex corbeti n. sp., is described from SE Nigeria. The only specimen known was previously assigned to Sylvisorex ollula, but is considerably larger, has a longer tail, elongated hindfeet and a very large skull and thus represents the largest species of the genus. From the Obudu Mountains in SE Nigeria a new speci- men is recorded which agrees well with typical S. ollula from lowland forest of southern Cameroon, and which repre- sents the first species record from Nigeria
