Abstract

Provides a broad theoretical background to the study of postglacial hunter-gatherers in temperate Eurasia and their transition to farming. Although most of the models and approaches so far adopted have been derived from the anthropology and ethnography of recent hunter-gatherers, it should be recognised that the historical circumstances of the early postglacial period in Europe and Asia may have produced conditions unlike any encountered today. -J.Sheail
