Safran objects to the term "citizen journalism" as it is inaccurate and self-congratulatory, but prefers to call it "participatory journalism," and describes why and how it works. Participatory journalism is a model in which a news organization works with its audience to have that "conversation" that is news. Viewers are invited to send in video clips from their deskstop computers, but not everything that is sent is broadcast or used on its Web site.
