Last year, Hewlett Packard (HP), the Digital Solidarity Fund (DSF) and the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (EMPA) supported baseline studies into e-waste management in Kenya, Morocco and Senegal. And recently, the partners also launched a pilot e-waste recycling project in South Africa. From such analyses, it can be concluded that, on the African continent, progress is being made in e-waste management but that substantial challenges still lie ahead.
