Abstract

The article examines Mindanao's role in terrorism in 2005. Commentators Rohan Gunaratna and Zachary Abuza, views the Jemaah Islamiyah as an al-Qaeda franchise dedicated to the establishment of an Islamic caliphate embracing much of Southeast Asia. This shows that foreign and domestic militant groups can thrive in lawless Mindanao.
