Abstract

The article discusses the use of social networking sites, such as Facebook and MySpace, by management in making decisions of hiring or retaining employees. Management could require monitoring of their employees' social monitoring sites to prevent the possibility of negligent hiring and retention lawsuits against the company. Guidelines could help managers on how to access this information to avoid lawsuits for invading the privacy of potential employees. Employees and job seekers should be aware of the decision of management to use these sites to gather information.
