Abstract

This paper summarizes the findings of the Cochrane systematic review by Jacobson et al 2009. The review authors wanted to assess the efficacy of laparoscopic surgery for the management of pelvic pain associated with endometriosis. Because of the lack of evidence definitive conclusions could not be drawn regarding the efficacy of laparoscopic surgery in the management of pelvic pain c. However, based on the evidence available a trend is seen towards a beneficial treatment effect with regard to improved pain outcomes for the intervention laparoscopic surgery when compared to diagnostic laparoscopy alone. Of note there were a limited number of women with a diagnosis of severe endometriosis incorporated in this meta-analysis therefore reliable conclusions regarding treatment of severe endometriosis can be made. © 2010 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
