Abstract

2013 5 1 2013 7 13 Some inappropriate terms and explanations are employed in the section on global landscapes in high school geography textbooks. The concepts of orogenic belts and stable landmasses do not explain the global landscape but global geologic structures or tectonic geology. Therefore, terms like young and old orogenic belts, shields, and tablelands should be deleted, and landform elements such as plan forms, relative heights, and inclinations should be used to describe landscapes. The concepts of orogenic belts and stable landmasses are useful for explanations of world mineral resources but they are geologic concepts. Faculty of universities and colleges could revise the textbooks and related questions on entrance examinations. A proposal for the revised text on global landscapes for high school textbooks is attached.
