Discipline summary

Manufacturing technology, also often referred to as production technology, covers all aspects of reliable and cost-effective manufacturing of products adhering to quality specification. Manufacturing technologies transform raw materials to semis, include forming of components, joining technologies, cutting processes and others, as outlined in DIN 8580. A product may be a final product, or a semifinished product, e.g. a module. Closely related to manufacturing technology is supply chain, lean management and quality.
