Job Description
As part of the World Bank assisted Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project-Odisha, a project ‘Inventorizing benthic faunal assemblages in the Chilika lagoon, Odisha’ has been funded and a position of Research Scientist is open in the Integrative Taxonomy and Microbial Ecology Research Group, Department of Biological Sciences, IISERK. The position is initially for one year but could be extended upon satisfactory performance. The selected candidate will receive a salary of Rs 28,000 per month (consolidated).

Required Skills
The study involves rigorous field sampling for collection of sediments across the Chilika lagoon and subsequent processing and analyzing of benthic faunal assemblages present in the collected sediments based on taxonomic approaches including confocal and SEM imaging. The selected scientist will also analyze major biogeochemical parameters from the study area to investigate how these parameters shape the benthic faunal assemblages.

Qualification and Experience Details
Ph.D. in Marine Science/Marine Biology/Zoology or candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis in Marine Science/Marine Biology/Zoology can also apply. Knowledge in benthic taxonomy is a prerequisite for the above position. The candidate should have prior field work experience during his/her PhD research.

Fisheries Assistant

Applications are invited for two Fisheries Assistant posts located at The Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen. A reserve list of successful candidates may be kept for up to 12 months.

You will contribute to Marine Scotland Science’s Sustainable Fisheries Programme, monitoring and sampling catches and collecting a range of biological data for use in the resource assessment process.

project at the department of Chemistry - Ångström, Photochemistry and Molecular Science, Uppsala University, aiming to produce hydrocarbon biofuels in cyanobacteria. The project involves using molecular and biochemical techniques to investigate and modify existing pathways as well as introducing heterologous genes to generate novel products. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating and analyzing new strains of our model organisms with the aim to optimize biofuel production, investigating the relevant mechanisms in the wild type strains, presenting and publishing the data, and participate in students in the project.

Doctoral degree in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or biotechnology is required.
