Does anyone have any background information regarding the Albacora Quarto and the cases that supported the actions of Hart Security in detaining it off Puntland?
Hi everyone,
quick question: does anyone have experience with using/citing confidential documents (eg from the UN) they've found on wikileaks? It would make my research a lot more interesting, but I do not want any trouble with legality..

hello chaps!
I'm looking for an article referenced in Axe 2009 A hands off approach. His reference for it is as follows...
Muhammad Shamsaddin Megalommatis, “Somalia: Blockade of Somaliland, Puntland, and All Somali Harbors but Mogadishu: the Only Answer to Piracy,” Somali Weyn, May 15, 2009, http://www.somaliweyn.org/pages/news/May_09/15May19.html.
I can't find it anywhere, does anyone know where I can get a copy? Sounds pretty interesting!

Christian Bueger Hi Charlie, Seems that acess is blocked to the article. What is it that you are trying to argue with it? Cheers, C.

charlie smith I'm writing a paper on innovative solutions to fixing the problem of piracy off the Gulf of Aden. Axe mentions the article in passing as an interesting 'home grown' solution to piracy but says little more. I had wanted to look up the article to find out more and maybe include the ideas in my policy proposals.
Cheers.

HI guys, Like a lot of people here I am writing a Masters thesis on Somali Piracy. This looks like a fantastic resource! I read a pretty interesting article by Sarah Percy and Anja Shortland (web link below) and wondered what popular consensus was on it? They seem to have some pretty novel ideas and I'm interested in basing my research design on their 'incentive based' approach.
What do you guys think of the article and do you know any way of gauging how well it has been received in wider academia?

(also available on itunesU in a lecture formate if anyone fancies it!)

Christian Bueger Hi Charlie,
the Shortland and Percy, as well as Percy's stuff in general is well received and indeed innovative. In terms of it's limits keep in mind that this is an economical explanation, in which cultural aspects do not really feature.
Cheers, Christian
