About this group
The Genomic Encyclopedia of Bacteria and Archaea is a project run by the Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute http://www.jgi.doe.gov/ to sequence genomes from across the phylogenetic diversity of bacteria and archaea. The project has been done in collaboration with the DSMZ http:// www.dsmz.de/ . In 2009 a paper was published describing the project and outlining the benefits that come from this phylogeny-driven sequencing approach.
