Currently I am working as a 'data developer' for Mendeley Analytics - essentially I utilize Hadoop, Pig, and AWS (EC2, S3, etc.) to store, process and analyze large amounts of data, all built together with Java, R, Python and Ruby.

I have also worked as a PHP and JS programmer, and architect, for Mendeley Web, ensuring that our information is kept secure, the pages passed W3 standards and generally building the front- and back-end up to support knowledge workers.

Academically, I arrived at this point by way of the University of Sussex, Imperial College London, King’s College London, and the Open University too - so my full "academic title" is: Andi Rutherford, BSc (Hons.), MAC, dIC, PGCE - but from my point of view that just looks a bit ridiculous; and might indicate that I have spent far too long in lecture theatres and not doing 'real' work :)

I am actively interested in design especially with regards to usability, and when not learning and studying I might be found appreciating or doing something in the arts, baking, or visiting the pigs at Hackney City Farm.
