Dr. phil. Benjamin Jörissen

Born Sept. 8th, 1968 in Krefeld/NRW/Germany, studied philosophy, educational science and german literature in Dusseldorf, Cologne and Berlin. Received my M.A. degree in 2000. My master’s thesis focused on the concept, the history and the critique of identity. It received the honour of being published by the Dep. of Educational Science and Psychology of the Freie Universität Berlin as the first volume of a still ongoing series “Berliner Arbeiten zur Kultur- und Erziehungswissenschaft” (Berlin Works in Cultural and Educational Science). Worked as scientific collaborator at the Freie Universität Berlin, Dep. for Anthropology and Education, from 2000 to 2004. Received my doctorate (Dr. phil.) with the grade “summa cum laude” at the Freie Universität Berlin in January 2005. My thesis is entitled “Medium - Image - Reality. The Reality of the Social and the New Media.” Participated in the DFG-funded Interdisciplinary Research Project “Kulturen des Performativen” (Cultures of the Performative) from 2000 to 2006.
October 2004 - March 2011 employed as a research assistent at the University Magdeburg, where I’m working on my postdoctoral lecture qualification (”Habilitation”) with a project entitled “Visual Educational Cultures in the New Media”.
April 2009 - March 2010 Professor per procurationem for Applied Media Science.
April 2011 - Akademischer Rat at Univ. Erlangen-Nürnberg
