Biographical Information
Carlos Caires was born in 1971 in Madeira Island (Portugal). Presently, he lives in the city of Oporto, where he works as a teacher and as a researcher at the School of Arts, placed at the Portuguese Catholic University in Oporto. Additionally, he is a PhD student at the Paris 08 University (in France), supervised by Jean-Louis Boissier, developing a project concerning the investigation in digital video image and interactive narrative: “The Conditions of Interactive Narrative, devices and reception” is the provisory title of his dissertation.
In 2004 he obtained his DEA diploma (Diplôme d´Études Approfondies), based on Contemporary Art, and his work was entitled "Randomness and the digital video image". Jean-Louis Boissier also supervised this work. In 2001 he finished his M.A. in Digital Arts at the School of Arts (placed at the Portuguese Catholic University in Oporto). His project "Digital print" intended to study new ways of expression while using interactive video processes. In 1995 he became a B.A. in Graphic Design at Madeira University. In 1996 he won a yearlong ERASMUS scholarship to study at the Venetian University (Universitá degli Studi di Venezia, Facoltá di bella arti).
