Biographical Information
I am a data mining engineer at Mendeley working on the research and development of a range of information retrial and machine learning projects. I am also architecting our systems to support these projects at the web-scale.
Previously I worked for a summer at IBM Hursley on the open source Apache WSDL parser which they were working on incorporating into Web Sphere. I have also helped started up Vimuse Technologies whilst at Durham University where we tried to solve the problem of event coordination and organisation whilst tying in more personalised and localised advertising for local business.
For my M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence at The University of Edinburgh I looked into modelling the time series beliefs of the population about the recent swine flu outbreak as it unfolded. I used prediction markets and social media services on the internet as data sources and compared their use as indicators in the population’s belief.
I did my B.Sc. in Natural Sciences at Durham University and read courses over Maths, Physics and Computer Science.
Outside of work you will find me out with friends in London and at gigs around town. I also try and play my Saxaphone and Ultimate Frisbee when I get the chance.
