Biographical Information

Dominique Babini (Argentina). Doctorate in political science (thesis: national information policy) and postgraduate in information science. Active in open access advocacy and development of open access social sciences initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean. Consulting for IDRC, UNDP, UNESCO, the Argentine government, International Social Science Council, International Committee for Social Science Documentation and Information and private foundations. Since 1998, coordinator of the Latin America and the Caribbean Social Science Council-CLACSO Information Area: open access networking and institutional repository that provides a decentralized open source platform for e-publishing, dissemination and access to research results, with advanced search facilities. The digital collection of 30.000 full-texts, including a peer-review journal collection CLACSO-Redalyc. Receives an average of 1.150.000 text requests each month. Researcher on scholarly communications and open access, at the Gino Germani Institute, University of Buenos Aires, since April 2012.
Has coordinated (1991-1995) the International Development Information Network (IDIN) with participation of social science networks from Asia (ADIPA), Africa (CODESRIA), Latin America (CLACSO), Arab countries (AICARDES) and Europe (EADI).
Member of: Scientific Committee, Red de Revistas Científicas de América Latina y el Caribe, España y Portugal-Redalyc (open access portal with 758 peer-review journals) ; Experts Committee of the Argentine National System of Science and Technology Institutional Repositories; International Editorial Advisory Board of "Information Development" (Sage Publications); Editor of the International Social Science Council Open Access Resources webpage; board member of the Argentine association of information networks Reciaria.
