Biographical Information
I work at the Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands in The Hague on a digital history project which involves the creation and building of an online community for the website Historici.nl. .
Previously I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Hebrew and Jewish Studies Department of University College London. I wrote my Ph.D. thesis at the Department of History and Civilization of the European University Institute in Florence, Italy on Jewish-born volunteers who fought in the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War.
I have an active interest in Jewish History/Yiddish Studies as well as digital humanities and digital history. I also act as editor and maintainer of two internet portals, European History Primary Sources and Yiddish Sources, which are dedicated to making online resources available to historians and other scholars (see links). I am particularly interested in the methodological implications of using new technologies in historical research and writing.
Before starting my Ph.D. research I worked for the History Research and Consultancy Center at the University of Groningen for clients from the cultural heritage sector and was involved in various projects. My experience includes research, editorial work, project coördination & management and the use of multimedia in museal settings. I also have experience with content management systems (Drupal and Wordpress) and web design.
