Biographical Information
Paul obtained a BA(Hons) Politics (first class) (University of Warwick, 2001), MA Sport, Politics and Society (with distinction) (University of Warwick, 2002) and a PhD (University of Brighton, 2009). He is an experienced researcher, specialising in sport, leisure and cultural policy. Paul has undertaken research and consultancy projects for a range of government agencies, including Defra, Sport England, SEEDA, Culture South East, Sussex Learning and Skills Council, the Countryside Agency and the Environment Agency. These projects have contributed to national policy development in the areas of sport policy (particularly, outdoor recreation) and workforce development and training in the creative and cultural sectors. Paul has published research findings widely in peer-reviewed academic journals, including Media, Culture & Society and Society & Natural Resources, as well specialist magazines and edited monographs. He is joint convenor and co-founder of the Political Studies Association’s sport specialist study group, a member of the AHRC-funded Sport in Modern Europe Network and has previously co-organised the annual conferences of the Leisure Studies Association (2007) and British Society of Sport History (2008).
