Abstract

Aneurysmal bone cyst of the spine is a benign lesion of the second and third decade of life, with potentially aggressive behavior. The aneurysmal bone cyst has a unique radiological appearance characterized by multiple cysts with fluid-fluid levels. Treatment options include resection, selective embolization, injections, and finally radiotherapy. Selective embolization and injections (biologic or sclerosing agent) under image guidance gained popularity and have minimal morbidity. If minimally invasive procedure fails, surgery becomes necessary; intralesional excision has a high rate of recurrence, while wide excision-particularly in the growing spine-may have unfavorable outcomes; however, when well done, it gives excellent and lasting results. Multidisciplinary approach is necessary.
