Abstract

Physiology and breeding: Breeding of top fruits, small fruits, vegetables and ornamentals; nutrient requirements of top fruits, small fruits and vegetables. Plant protection: Testing fungicides and insecticides; arsenic residues on apples; entomological studies on many horticultural pests; virus diseases of top fruits and strawberries; and control of grey mould of vines, Phoma spp. of brassicas and root rot of cyclamen. Fruit and vegetable utilization: Storage of apples and pears; freezing of small fruits and vegetables. Pomology: Rootstocks for fruit trees; nutrient deficiencies and manuring; soil and locality as affecting tree growth and bearing; farm economics and management; walnut growing; and variety trials. Viticulture and oenology: Variety trials and selection; vine nutrition and manuring; labour-saving cultural systems; spraying techniques; propagation; and frost protection. Market gardening: Vegetable variety trials and rose - rootstock trials.
