Abstract

The article examines the life and work of the German artist Joseph Beuys. Particular focus is given to the difficulties many art historians and viewers have had interpreting his art. Additional topics discussed include the biography "Beuys," by Hans Peter Riegel, his work in sculpture and installation and his associations with West German society.
