Beyond the CECS horizon

Abstract

This article was originally presented at the 1st IAAF Area Coaches Association Conference in May 2003. After welcoming representatives of the six Area coaches associations, the author makes the case for new efforts to develop the coaching profession, stressing the importance of cooperation and interdependence. He then lists the key objectives and outlines the main elements of the IAAF project he is leading: appointment of an IAAF Coaches Commission, support for the Area Coaches Associations and establishment of an IAAF Academy of Athletics. He concludes by asking the representatives of the coaches associations for their support to help change coaching and athletics.
