Abstract
The desktop metaphor is showing cracks as it's prob- lems and inherent limitations are constraining user action. This paper summarizes three ways in which these problems can be addressed: extend the desktop metaphor, reframe the desktop metaphor and design alternative interaction models or post-desktop mod- els. As a conclusion, seven dimensions can be de- duced from these proposals as a guideline for future development.
