Modern imaging techniques, comprising structural, functional and experimental imaging techniques, have greatly enriched schizophrenia research. Studies have further corroborated the significance of cortical regions, frontal and temporal lobe structures, as well as the cingulate region, in the aetiology of schizophrenia. Most structural and functional imaging experiments are performed in combination with clinical data or behavioural data, and may potentially provide substantial insights into the pathophysiology of schizophrenia.
