Abstract

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) anthers at different developmental stages were cultured on Potato-2 medium to test the ability of the pollen to produce calli. The frequency of anthers which produced calli was maximum when the anthers were excised at mid- or late uninucleate stage while the peak of yield of calli and green plantlets usually appeared at mid-uninucleate stage. The range of stages at which the anthers were productive varied with genotypes, however, calli and plantlets were obtained from anthers at pollen mother cell to trinucleate stage in two F1 hybrids. © 1984.
