Abstract

paper copy; Prevalence of small, dispersed sites in the later Classical and early Hellenistic periods, and in the Late Roman period (after 300 AD) seems to be the general rule. Focus on agricultural regime and class structure. Extensive system, compatible with thin pattern of sites, and intensive system compatible with dense pattern. Furthermore, the increase of population may be linked to increase number of sites and/or urban density. Olive growing as more intensive form of agriculture.
