Abstract

The following topics are covered: 1) Diurnal forcings and local circulations, including tides. 2) Planetary scale atmospheric circulation. 3) Ocean circulation and equatorial current systems. 4) Heat and water budgets for the atmosphere and ocean. 5) Regional circulation systems, including jet streams, subtropical highs, trade winds, equatorial troughs and monsoons. 6) Climatology of weather systems, including tropical storms, easterly waves, squall lines, dust storms, cyclones, cold surges and interannual variability. 7) Interannual variability of the ocean/atmosphere system, including El Nino and the Southern Oscillation. 8) Climate prediction, including the Indian monsoon, rainfall in Africa, droughts in Brazil, and tropical storms. -J.Austin
