Abstract
Seminal discussion of different 'comparative methods'. He distinguishes between the case study, the comparative and the statistical method, the latter being the superior to the second one because it is closer to the experimental method. On page 691 he distinguishes between several types of case studies. He also gives advices how to resolve the small-N many variables problem.
