Abstract

Purpose - This work aims to summarise research papers on crowdsourcing, to determine directions of future research. Approach - Literature review. Findings - This paper generalises crowdsourcing taxonomy. Until recent time, especially in pre-crises period, most of innovation initiatives came from manufacturers, often imposing excessive functionality of products to its users. Economical downturn revealed defectiveness and unsustainability of consumer society, the time for a new business thinking paradigm came, which is oriented to true customer needs. The answer to new business philosophy call is user-driven innovation, particularly Crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing is an online, distributed problem-solving and production model, which emerged recently. Crowdsourcing was mentioned in the literature for the first time in 2006. This work provides an introduction to crowdsourcing and proposes directions of further research.
