The current st~~tly attempts to extend our understanding of how cultitral factors relate to basic ~noti;ational processes, specifically achievement goals. Analyses were guided by the following two questions: First, are there rnean- level differences in goal endorsement? Data on cultur- Asian Americans, Nigerian, students. In general, the findings of both correlational and factor analyses suggest that the theo~,etical distinction between mastery (i.e., intrinsic) and performance (i.e., extrinsic) goals may not be as precise as theory would suggest, particularly fol. tltose students from interdepen- dent c~ltures
