Journal of Human Evolution (1996)

Abstract

Pliocene hominids from East Africa are now well-documented in rocks dated between 3-4 Ma but pre-4-million-year-old hominids are extremely rare. Paleoanthropological field work near Fejej in southern Ethiopia has yielded hominid dental remains from this earlier time period. However, earlier attempts to date these fossils yielded discrepant ages between 3.6-4.4 Ma.
