Abstract

In the last decade, the amount of data created by large scientific facilities, sensors, new observation instruments, and supercomputing has outpaced our ability to process, store, and analyze the data. As technological factors—such as faster processors, better storage, and increased bandwidth—have enabled the much greater production and capture of data, the creation of standards to manage these data has not kept pace.
