Abstract

Social identity-self-categorisation into a social group. Self-stereotyping about how well the traits of a social group fit for you. Self-stereotyping is a mechanism by which a social identity may become relevant to a person. Questionnaire research. Good response rates. Surprisingly, strength of identity, imprtance of identity and self-stereotyping stronger as doctor than student even in 1st yr students. May reflect anticipatory socialisation, longterm view of vocation (lso may reflect a crap questionnaire or giving expected answers).
