Abstract

The dichroism of tourmaline arises partially from charge-transfer transitions within nextnearest neighbour cations through shared octahedral edges in the 001 layer. Similar structural features occur in the sheet silicates, and charge-transfer spectra in these structures are discussed. © 1970.
