Abstract

In a series of patients (648 basaliomas, 53 with Bowen's disease, 231 spinaliomas, 392 melanomas), Follow up studies were carried out and evaluated by sex prevalence, mortality, localization, possibilities for therapy and therapeutic success. Basalioma is a disease of advanced age mostly affecting men. 78.4% of the tumors were at sites exposed to light. Surgical treatment (relapse of 9.07%) is the therapy of choice. Recurrence area commonly localized in the nasal region. On excision a safety margin of 0.5-1 cm should be maintained. Bowen's disease is found almost exclusively in patients over age 50 yr and affects men and women equally often. There are no predilection sites. Surgery and radiotherapy were employed with success. Spinalioma affects men significantly more often than women (p<0.05). Like the other epitheliomas it is a disease of older age. 80.9% of the tumors are found at uncovered sites. Spinaliomas were often localized on the lower lip and the ear in contrast to the basaliomas: 81.39% of the tumors were excised (relapse rate 4.79%). Melanoma may appear at any age with a predilection for the fourth and fifth decades of life; the ratio men:women was 1:1.59. The main localization in women was the leg, and in men, the back. In 26.02% of the patients, lymph node metastases were extirpated; in 12.5% skin metastases appeared and 5% had a local recurrence. Despite the occasionally very short follow up period, 25% of the patients have already died.
