The actual mortalities caused by an outbreak of Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD or Gumboro disease) are likely to be just the tip of the iceberg. The effects of the subclinical disease, such as uneven growth rate or immuno-suppression are likely to be more apparent and economically damaging. The virus that causes Gumboro disease is ubiquitous and highly resistant.
