Abstract

A field trial was carried out in the Philippines to determine the possible effect of sweep-net sampling on rice yields from 3 varieties. Sampling was carried out for 3 consecutive weeks starting 67 days after transplanting, and each plot was passed through 1, 3 or 6 times with 10 sweeps/pass. There was no significant differences in yield from IR64 between the different sweeping patterns. With IR62, 0-3 passes did not affect yield, but 6 passes resulted in a significant yield reduction. The yield of IR1917-3-17 was reduced by 3-6 passes, but not by 1 pass.
